Track Seeding in a Breast Cancer Patient after a 14-Gauge Core Needle Biopsy: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
and nonpalpable breast lesions is a safe and effective alternative to fine-needle aspiration and needle-localized breast excisional biopsies (1, 2). It can reduce the need for a two-stage procedure and can improve the surgical and oncological outcomes (3). However, one disadvantage of this technique for sampling breast cancer is the possible seeding of malignant tumor cells along the needle track (4-6). Many studies have examined track seeding after needle localization or biopsy, and they have reported microscopic seeding after procedures or recurrences at biopsy sites after definitive treatment (5-8). Yet to the best of our knowledge, gross track seeding after a 14-gauge core needle biopsy has never been reported for a breast cancer patient. We report here on a case of cancer cell seeding along the biopsy tract of mucinous carcinoma observed 70 days after performing a 14-gauge core needle biopsy.

Risk of Needle-track Seeding After Diagnostic Image-guided Core Needle Biopsy in Breast Cancer
OBJECTIVE Image-guided core needle biopsy (IGCNB) is an accepted technique for sampling nonpalpable mammographically detected suspicious breast lesions. However, the concern for needle-track seeding in malignant lesions remains. An alternative to IGCNB is needle-localization breast biopsy (NLBB). No study has been done to compare the local recurrence rate of breast cancer after IGCNB versus NLB...
متن کاملThe negative predictive value of ultrasound-guided 14-gauge core needle biopsy of breast masses: a validation study of 339 cases
PURPOSE To determine the negative predictive value of sonographically guided 14-gauge core needle biopsy of breast masses, with detailed analysis of any false-negative cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS We reviewed 669 cases of sonographically guided 14-gauge core needle biopsies that had benign pathologic findings. Given a benign pathology on core biopsy, true-negatives had either benign pathology...
متن کاملA Case of Subcutaneous Seeding of Hepatocellular Carcinoma After Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy
Cancer spread along the needle track following fine needle aspiration biopsy is said to be a rare complication. The authors report a case of subcutaneous implantation of hepatocellular carcinoma following ultrasono-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy. The patient, a 67-year-old Korean male was found to have a large hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy. Four month...

Background &Objectives;: Evaluation of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and (human epidermal growth factor receptor-2) Her-2 on core needle biopsies (CNBs) is increasingly in use to diagnosis early breast cancer, but its concordance with surgical excision (SE) is not well documented. Methods: The study ...
متن کاملExsanguinating Hemorrhage during Open Biopsy in a Primary Breast Angiosarcoma: A Case Report
Angiosarcomas are endothelial cell neoplasms in the lining of the blood vessel wall and account for about 0.04% of all breast malignancies with a high rate of error in primary diagnosis. The breast angiosarcoma is a rare and uncommon pathology and has been described mostly as case reports. Indeed, only a limited number of cases have been published. Accordingly, the natural history of this tumor...
